The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C)

Did you know....

  • Every year in Canada, approximately 1,300 fires are started due to children playing with lighters and matches (Ontario Fire Marshall)
  • Fire setting presents an enormous risk to children, teenagers, their families and the community.
  • Fire involvement can be a sign of other problems in a child's life. It can start at any age.
  • Fire play can start out small and progress to more serious fires that threaten the safety of the child and the family.

It's important that you deal with any fire involvement immediately, that's where TAPP-C comes in. The Arson Prevention Program for Children is a collaborative program that brings together fire service and other professionals to help deal effectively with fire setting and fire play behaviours for children and youth up to age 17 years. There are two parts to a TAPP-C assessment: 1) Fire education to assist with developing good fire safety practices; 2) Risk assessment to determine the level of risk of continued fire involvement.

For more information or to make a referral please contact TAPP-C intake at 613-966-3100, extension 234 or call your local fire department.

Long Term Capital Planning #6

alt textOn August 25, 2016, the Ministry of Education (MOE) released facility condition data for Ontario schools. This information is posted online at:

The Facility Condition Index (FCI) is a source of data about the state of school repairs. The MOE gathers it in 5-year cycles, the last of which took place from 2011 to 2015. The data is routinely used by the MOE and may be used by school boards for planning capital projects and school repairs.
