Waterbottles for Everyone
All students received a water bottle from Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health today as part of the Healthy Smiles program. All of our students were screened for dental health issues as part a pilot program. We are very proud of our ongoing partnership with Public Health.
We are going to be suspending our milk program until further notice. Due to the ongoing labour relations and negotiations, we will be unable to sell milk at this time. If you would like to read more about the negotations, there is a link at the bottom of our website.

Tiger Success Awards
On Monday September 28th we held our first Tiger Success Award ceremony of the year. Each month students are selected to receive an award for demonstrating excellent character attributes. For September our classrooms focussed on Respect: "We value ourselves, others and our environment. We give consideration to the thoughts and actions of others. We treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves, with courtesy and dignity."
Teachers selected the following students this month:

Terry Fox Walk
The student council is doing a great job organizing the Terry Fox Walk. This will be held on Friday October 2nd. Everyone is encouraged to wear red and white and to bring donations for cancer research.
School Group Cross-Country is postponed until Thursday.
Open House and BBQ!
On Thursday we held our annual Open House and Barbeque. The weather was perfect for the picnic style event which saw over 150 children, parents and grandparents come to the school. The open house was organized by our school council which consists of amazing volunteers who organized everything. Our amazing custodians, Greg and Coner helped out to get us set up and to make the school look great!
Guests were treated to a barbeque dinner which was prepared by the Picton Fire Fighters. Their team effort saw them cook 144 hotdogs and 75 hamburgers in just over 30 minutes! We are very grateful that they are able to come to help us each year.
Inside the school, many community agencies that we partner with on a daily basis came to share their programs and information with us. Tables were set up by The Royal Canadian Legion, The HUB, County Kids Read, The Prince Edward Libary, The School Yearbook, The Prince Edward Fire Fighters, Highland Shores Children's Aid Society, The ROC, The Health Unit and Community Living. Parents and students were able to visit with the speakers at each table. There were many take-aways -- including free books!
This was the first event for our new Tiger Student Council. Twelve of our fantastic intermediate leaders came to support the evening. They did so much to help: i. showed up early to help set-up, ii. helped with any cleaning and preparation, iii. gave tours to parents, iv. and stayed late to help clean up. We are so proud of our Student Council. This is just the first of many leadership opportunites for them.
Queen Elizabeth School is very fortunate to have a wonderfully dedicated group of parents who volunteer their time to be part of school council. This incredible evening was only possible because of their hard work!
